Tournament Rules
The Kitchener Golden Ring Ringette Tournament is sanctioned by the RO and therefore all RO rules and Ringette Canada Official Rules will be followed unless otherwise specified. These rules will be posted at all arenas during the tournament weekend.
Game Sheets
All members of the coaching staff must sign the game sheets 30 minutes prior to game time.
Game Start Time
All teams must be ready to go on the ice TEN MINUTES PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED GAME TIME for all games, except for the first game of each day.
Warm Up
Three minutes will be allowed for on-ice warm-up for all games. This warm up will start as soon as the Ice Resurfacer leaves the ice and it is each team’s responsibility to have their players lined up and ready to take the ice. The tournament reserves the right to reduce warmup time to 2 minutes if needed. For younger teams, there will be a whistle 30 seconds left in the warm up, to allow for a cheer. Team Cheers will not be allowed warm up time. Thank you for respecting this rule.
GAMES
18+AA divisions will play two 20 minute stop time periods. All other divisions will play two 15 minute stop time periods.
In an effort to minimize delays during the tournament, running game time will be implemented in accordance with RO G&T manual. Running time can only be used in the second period and will commence at any time during that period when there is a seven (7) goal differential. If the goal differential goes below seven (7), then the game will go back to stop time. If a penalty is called during running time, then the clock stops and restarts when play commences. The clock will stop for injuries or if a time out is called, and restarts when play commences during running time.
Shot clock
Shot clocks will be used for all divisions from U12 divisions up. Shot clock rules will be in effect. Shot clock rules will be available at registration desk at all arenas during the tournament weekend.
POINT STRUCTURE
RANKING OF TIED TEAMS
Note: The procedures will declare team(s) in individual rankings. In some cases, there will still be a tie within the rankings. (i.e.: in a four-way tie for first in a round robin, the procedures could place one team clearly first with two teams tied for second/third and one team fourth). In these cases, start at step 1 and follow the procedures to resolve the ranking of the remaining tied teams.
The ranking of tied teams will be determined in the following order, based on RO current rules:
FULLY SERVED PENALTIES
As per the Ringette Ontario rules any four minute fully served penalty that cannot be served during the remaining clock time of the game shall result in a one game suspension. This includes any such fully served penalty assessed after the end of the game.
U8 Division
RO guidelines for U8 play will be in effect for these divisions. No scores will be posted. There are no finals. 2-minute buzzer will be used for shifts. One coach per team is allowed on ice. Games will be curfewed at 50 minutes.
Teams can run with either a player in net using just a goalie stick and rotate each line OR they can dress a player in full equipment and rotate games throughout the tournament. (Note - if a team is using a fully dressed goalie, no time will be given to switch the equipment to another player during the game unless there is an injury or illness.)
GRIEVANCES & PROTESTS
No protest or grievances will be considered regarding an official's on ice judgment or application of the rules. Questions concerning rule interpretation can be directed to the tournament Referee-In-Chief. Tournament volunteers at the arenas will be able to contact the Referee-In-Chief.
In the unlikely event that there is a protest or grievance, the Tournament Protest and Grievance Committee will render any related decisions. All decisions of this committee will be considered final.
Sportsmanship
No unsportsmanlike conduct will be tolerated from the spectators or coaches. Any person who interferes with the game or verbally abuses a PLAYER, COACH, OFFICAL, TIMEKEEPER or SHOT CLOCK OPERATOR, will be asked to leave the playing area and not return. The Head Coach will be notified by an on-ice official to remove the person. If the person refuses to leave the playing area after a reasonable period of time, the game will be called and the team associated with the person will forfeit the game.
